LOVE UNITES GEAR
In the weeks following the aftermath of the passage of prop 8 in California, Shepard Fairey, reknowned artist who designed the iconic Obama images,created the Defend Equality /Love Unites image for the LGBT community. In the week of FAIR's founding and early planning, the organization was able to align with Shepard Fairey to be the distributor of this image.
Shepard Fairey's connection and reputation for creating art that represented social progression became solidified on an International level when he designed the iconic "Hope" poster that became the symbol for Barack Obama's bid for presidency in 2008.
Within weeks of its release, the Defend Equality/Love Unites Image was seen on tshirts, posters, store front windows, bumper stickers and various outdoor signage. In the past year the Defend Equality/Love unites symbol has grown to be embraced by the LGBT community all over the country. Today the image continues to live on not only on the streets but on the web, including social networking sites where members of the community have unified to place the images in photo profiles and information pages.
